Root tip resection: The last chance for tooth preservation

Despite carefully performed root canal treatment, in some cases, a renewed or persistent inflammation at the root tip can occur. In such a case, root tip resection is often the last possibility to preserve the affected tooth in the long term. At CityDent in Dietzenbach, we carry out this microsurgical intervention safely and gently.

When is a root tip resection necessary?

Root tip resection is considered if a conventional root canal treatment has not brought the desired success or is not possible due to anatomical features (e.g., heavily curved canals). In this process, the inflamed area at the root tip is surgically removed.

The procedure at CityDent:

• Gentle opening of the gums under local anesthesia.
• Precise shortening of the root tip by a few millimeters.
• Removal of the inflamed tissue from the bone.
• Checking the root canal and, if necessary, additional sealing from below (retrograde filling).
• Fine wound closure for rapid healing.
